Who Can Access Karakan?
Karakan’s services can be accessed by people who:
• identify as having a mental illness
• are aged 18 years and over
Although this is our main entry criteria and it is needed to access our service we emphasise that a person is a person and they are not defined by a diagnosis of mental illness.
Catchment Area
Karakan provides services in the South Brisbane region through to Beenleigh.
Services Available
Individual Support
• 2 hours of one on one support available each week
• Nature and duration of support is dependent upon the needs of the individual
Flexible Respite
• Support for people who live at home who are dependent upon a primary carer
• Can be once off support or up to six weeks
• Support can be provided in their own home or in the community
Short Term Accommodation*
• 4-10 hours of individual support each week
• Share accommodation
• 3 month tenancy only
• House located in Beenleigh
• Disability Services eligibility criteria applies. More information is here.
Transitional Accommodation*
• 2-4 hours of individual support each week
• Share accommodation
• 5 houses located in the following suburbs
• Buranda
• Fruitgrove
• Slacks Creek
• Logan Central
• Beenleigh
• Length of stay, house rules and support hours vary based on funding requirements and individual needs
How to Apply
Complete the two page application form and return to Karakan. The form can be downloaded by click here. You can expect to be contacted within 3 days to arrange a time for a meeting with Karakan to discuss your application in more detail.
